Do you have a Zoom or Skype interview for a job coming up? What should you wear? Will virtual interviews become more popular? In our latest YouTube video, stylist Alison Bruhn, walks us through ideas of how to dress to get that job! Below you’ll find a curated shoppable selection of items similar to the ones in the video in case you need something new! Good luck!!
Along with what you wear, remember to create a polished, understated makeup look. You don’t want to distract the interviewer in any way.
Before the interview, make sure you have the proper lighting, this can be as easy as putting a lamp directly behind your computer (or you can purchase a light – options here & here), or by sitting in front of a window for natural light (in front, not to one side, or the other side of your face with be in darkness!).
Maybe the most important thing to keep in mind is the height of your computer. It needs to be AT EYE LEVEL. You can put your laptop on a stack of books, a file folder box, anything sturdy that raises up the computer.
On Zoom, you can select “touch up your appearance.” While in the Zoom app, click Preferences, click on Video on the left side toolbar, then under “My Video,” select the box that says, “touch up my appearance.”
Last piece of advice- take a selfie! This will show you how the lighting looks, and also how the background looks. Put some thought into what is behind you!
If you follow these steps, you can relax and feel confident that you have set yourself up for success!
