The Style That Binds Us Team recently visited LYMBR for an hour-long stretch session, and loved it! Learn all about LYMBR + the benefits of stretching in this Q&A interview:
What is LYMBR?
LYMBR is a wellness company specializing in mobility work through personalized stretching. Each assisted stretch session is customized to the needs and goals of our clients, and the progress we make builds with each session. Our therapists are a passionate group of people, looking to positively impact the lives of their clients through our certified LYMBR Method. They spend hundreds of hours training at our LYMBR Academy before working with clients, because we value the importance of being educated and confident in what we do.
Why did the founders start LYMBR?
LYMBR was founded by a group of friends who viewed an active and healthy lifestyle as something essential to their lives. As they continued on with their careers and building families, they remained competitive in sports and their practice in other areas of fitness. It became evident that staying limber and healthy had to be as high a priority as anything else. LYMBR was born out of the realization that they were not the only ones wanting to stay active year after year. With more people wanting to get in better shape and working out more frequently, not enough time is being spent on the recovery from these activities. We break our bodies down, and we need to build them back up. People are also living longer, and they expect and deserve to age gracefully. At LYMBR, we support the goals of anyone who is interested in maintaining their mobility, for the long run.
Can you give us some of the benefits of stretching?
Stretching alleviates stress and tension, increases range of motion, and improves recovery from activity. It can improve neurological pathways from the brain to the muscles, improve posture and alignment, prevent injury, and can actually enhance one’s fitness routine. Because our method is active (instead of static), it can be performed any time of day, before or after physical activity. Each stretch has several modifications, making it highly inclusive of almost all abilities and body types. Some of our most popular modifications are for our pregnant clients!
What services does LYMBR offer?
LYMBR offers assisted stretching, customized to the needs and goals of their clients. We also have specific packages for different activities such as our golf and runner packages, which are designed to target areas of importance within these activities, and give you tips and training tools along the way.
What are some results your clients have seen after coming to LYMBR?
We love hearing our clients’ success stories! One in particular is about our client, Lucia whose accident riding her horse left her with a shattered pelvis, three broken vertebrae and a torn hamstring. Her recovery was long and frustrating, and even though she was going to physical therapy, her pain remained constant. She was about to accept the fact that she would never walk “normally” again, when she found LYMBR! Her body was so locked up from the trauma and surgery, but even after the first session she knew this was the missing piece of the puzzle. Three months later she was walking up and down flights of stairs with no problem, and back to living an active lifestyle!
Who is a good candidate for LYMBR?
Anyone can be considered a good candidate for LYMBR! We offer services not only to those who are constantly active, but those working in an office, taking care of children or are pregnant. We even see post-op patients and people with movement disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, and Cerebral Palsy. We pride ourselves in our work, and knowing we have built accessible, inclusive modifications for almost all situations and circumstances.
Will you tell us about the stretching method LYMBR uses?
The LYMBR Method of Progressive Emphasis Stretching is a proprietary, guided method of personalized stretching, administered by highly trained certified LYMBR Therapists. Our method is the result of over 25 years of experience, research and development in the stretching and massage industries. Your therapist takes you through a series of movements targeting individual muscles within a specific grouping. These movements are designed to increase flexibility and improve range of motion while expanding myofascial pathways for greater oxygenation and circulation.
These guided stretches are performed in multiple repetitions and only held for a few seconds. The motion increases awareness of individual muscle responses within the desired tissue to increase alignment and restore balance. The result is less tension around areas of over or underutilized muscles, which reduces discomfort and increases mobility allowing you to relax, perform and recover better.
What are some conditions LYMBR helps with?
LYMBR helps with injuries, recovery from a sport or activity, stress relief and postural realignment from working and sitting a lot. Aging is a huge influence on our bodies, and LYMBR’s stretch method is designed to keep you moving so you can maintain mobility and an active lifestyle. It is also good for mothers who are pregnant or have recently had a baby.
Any tips for recovery after a workout? Do’s and don’ts/musts?
Definitely stretch! Even if you can’t make it in to see one of our amazing therapists, doing something over nothing will help you with your recovery process. Staying hydrated and refueling your body is also super important, not only for recovery, but to get the most benefit out of your workout.
How can we be proactive instead of reactive when it comes to our health?
Proactive individuals will do things like daily stretching, managing water and food intake, exercise, regular doctor visits, etc. Reactive individuals don’t take these steps until their health starts to fail, or they get injured. Being proactive doesn’t mean your health won’t or can’t take a turn, but it greatly reduces the chances of that happening. You are taking steps, getting prepared, and doing what you need to do to be healthy.
Reactive individuals are often stuck in a loop of “go, go, go”, until they can’t go anymore because something has come undone. The best way to break that cycle is to add new habits that let you stay busy and active without getting derailed. If you have a tight schedule, then start to schedule your workouts like you schedule your meetings. If you’re too busy to shop for healthy food which forces you to eat out too much, sign up for a meal service. Don’t know how to stretch or what to do when you’re feeling stiff? Start by just standing up and moving more and add some simple dynamic stretches to do every day for 5 minutes: that’s all it takes.
We would be remiss to not reinforce that proactive stretching is key
Proactive stretching is like building a solid foundation for a house. When the storm comes rolling in, you may not escape completely unscathed, but your foundation will prevent the likelihood of the entire structure breaking down. This is the same when you make stretching part of your weekly routine. Regular stretching will keep your body mobile and prepared for your long workdays at your desk or on your feet, and your weekend warrior activities.
