Beauty Maintenance/Wellness

Mar 20, 2020

Hello everyone! (note: this blog post was written before bed after taking our vitamin D and putting on our Goop Glow masks!)

HOW ARE YOU HOLDING UP?

Before COVID-19, we all understood that it’s important to take care of ourselves; that there are easy ways to stay healthy (if we take the necessary steps), and we have been fairly good about incorporating these into our daily lives.

SO WHAT’S THE BIG DEAL?

The big deal is that our daily lives have changed radically in the last month. Ways to stay healthy have changed as well; for example, we can’t run to the gym for a class, or grab a salad and juice while we are out and about. We are spending almost all our time indoors (unless we are first-responders, and that has a whole set of complications unto itself). Since we are practicing “social distancing” & “sheltering in place” these days, it’s even more important that we make sure our immune systems are boosted, and that we are practicing smart habits in order to stay healthy and strong. We asked Delia, our resident “wellness” guru, to put together some items we can use to stay healthy on the inside and outside of our bodies!

GREY HAIR ANYONE?

A recurring question in the time of Coronavirus is what will we look like when we get to finally come out of our houses?!

There are plenty of jokes and memes going around about it, but it’s true that we are missing hair appointments (for cuts AND color), dermatology and spa visits (Botox, filler, facials, waxing), manicures, pedicures, etc.  I couldn’t believe that Walgreens is completely sold out of products like Clairol Root Touch Up online and in store as well. I bet those brands are doing better now than they ever have! People are going to drastic (and sometimes expensive) measures; a client told me her colorist mixed up some color for her to use at home!

YIKES, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?

We’ve got you covered!! At TSTBU, we are going through this as well, so we did a little research. For example, concerning our nails, we looked into what our friends, like Deborah Lippman for nails, or Rita Hazan, the celebrity colorist, for hair. We came up with some simple ways you can still keep up your beauty maintenance without being able to go to a salon. You might say, “Who really cares?” You might feel like staying on the bed in your p.j.s all day, doing your work from there, but the truth about that plan is this:

IN ORDER TO KEEP SOME FEELING OF NORMALCY

You need to get up, workout and get dressed. In addition to some beauty and wellness suggestions, we added a few ideas for what to wear while being stuck at home. You can be comfy and casual without being sloppy! It can be depressing to look in the mirror and see your racoon eyes from left-over mascara, hair that hasn’t been washed in 3 days, and a sweatshirt with coffee spills down the front! It’s amazing what a shower, a swipe of lip gloss and blowing your hair dry can do for your mood. It’s the difference between feeling like you are coping well, and feeling that you’re not coping at all!

SERIOUSLY FOLKS

It also makes others around you feel that things are “normal”. You know that expression, “Clothes make the man” Well, in this instance,  it’s “clothes make the woman”. When you are clean and well kept (at least take off the old nail polish and file your nails, moisturize your face, add some root concealer, put on jeans and a top rather than sweats, and a little bit of natural looking makeup, you feel stronger and more in control. This will trickle down to those around you we promise!

OK, I HEAR YOU BUT WHERE DO I BEGIN?

Below are some ideas we came up to help!

Until next week, stay healthy!

Xx,

Delia and Alison
