HAVE YOU HEARD THE NAME Lydia Courteille ?
To be honest, we weren’t sure we had. It turns out we had seen her jewelry designs in East Hampton, NY last summer, but only remembered this when we walked into her jewel box of a store on Rue St. Honoré in Paris. Listen to the episode on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.
WELL TELL US! WHO IS SHE?
First of all, Lydia is a trained gemologist. She is from Paris. She has an incredible jewelry brand and store that is a must-visit the next time you’re in Paris. She’s been making jewelry for 30 years (which started as a hobby of collecting antique jewels), and has had the store for 20 years. Just as interesting is the fact that she had a very different career before designing jewelry.
WHAT DREW US TO HER BOUTIQUE?
When we heard that Karl Lagerfeld had chosen her pieces for his shows for years, our curiosity was piqued. We decided to gather our courage and go meet her in person. Have you noticed that sometimes in a foreign place, you have more courage than in your own hometown about walking up to a stranger and beginning a conversation?
WHAT WE FOUND OUT
Lydia’s pieces are truly works of art. Our bet is that they are like no other jewelry you have ever seen. Her career path is fascinating, and the advice she received from her friend, Karl Lagerfeld, is important for anyone who calls themselves a designer. Some notable clients of hers include: Madonna, Catherine Deneuve, Elizabeth Taylor, Nicole Kidman, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie among others! She is recommended by none other than Karl Lagerfeld himself. Listen to the episode here!
