Day 4 New York Fashion Week: All Your Questions Answered About TSTBU

Our first stop during Day 4 was a market appointment with Michelle Waugh, who is an outerwear designer. Her pieces have been worn by Michelle Obama and Eva Chen. She has had some trunk shows on Moda Operandi.

We have our first section of questions in the car! We talk about where we are from and what The Style That Binds Us is all about. TSTBU is a place of discovery. We want you to walk away from every piece of content having learned something. This content is of substance and speaks to the intersection of fashion, art, food, culture, music, dance, travel and more. We help with brand awareness for emerging designers. These may not be new to the fashion industry, but would probably be new to our audience.

TSTBU is a place you can come and learn about new designers and you’ll be able to tell your friends and family about your discoveries and they will think you are a font of knowledge and up-to-date on the under-the-radar brands! There are so many brands out there, so it is important to stand out from the rest and have a point-of-view. The brands we choose to work with are ones that we believe in and have established relationships with.

What kinds of styling do you do?

In terms of styling services, The Style That Binds Us offers VIP styling days tailored to you, virtual styling and one-on-one styling. We will continue to feature style hack videos on our YouTube channel.

We will also offer consulting services with an option for a brand audit, decide which stores make sense to target & focus on analyzing and growing your business.

In terms of how we work together as mother and daughter, we show you how to style pieces for a variety of ages. We are bridging the age gap. We show how Delia vs. Alison would style a piece.

We started TSTBU when multiple people told us we should do something together, so we thought we should at least try it.

A goal for The Style That Binds Us is that we want people to come back thinking what will they learn this time, a designer can learn from our industry interviews hearing what other designers are doing.

Delia is the cleaner eater, preferably five ingredients or less. She is a vegetarian. Reading through the ingredient labels is important, but tiring.

Caffeine preference?

Alison drinks coffee, Delia drinks matcha.

Spring 2019 trends: sheer (both on the runway and street style), pastels, lightweight and textured plaids/tweeds in spring colors.

The worst part about fashion week is the lines!

We attend the Jonathan Simkhai presentation that featured a lot of lace, gingham, white and the sheer trend. He was a CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund winner. He is based in LA. The label was founded in 2001. It was really crowded because everyone wanted to see the collection! It smelled like flowers inside, so it was a calming and beautiful setting.

We went to the Yves Saint Laurent Beauty Hotel. For a launch party and La Esquina for dinner.

The last stop of the night was the Area runway show. The founders are Piotrek Panszczyk and Beckett Fogg. They met while studying at Parsons. Beckett grew up in Kentucky and went to UVA. Piotrek was born in Poland and grew up in Holland. They were CFDA Vogue Fashion Fund finalists. They started working on the brand in 2013. Their brand has RTW, shoes, bags and jewelry. Kendall and Kylie Jenner, Beyonce, Rita Ora and so many more wear their clothes.
