What is Sage + Sound?
Sage + Sound is a wellness destination on the Upper East Side offering curated programming, products + self-care services in a revitalizing and approachable atmosphere. It’s a place where you can experience “wellness” in any way you want. We meet you wherever you are on your journey.
What led you to start Sage + Sound?
Lauren: I grew up having a mother as a professional choreographer/dancer, so movement and fitness were always a huge part of my life. For me, at the time, that was my wellness routine and passion, but I did not until shit hit the fan in my personal life and I realized I needed tools outside of movement. From there, I dove deep into my journey of exploring mindfulness classes/modalities, treatments, and healers to help me get through the tough times. I realized its a practice like anything else, every day utilizing these tools to help me grow.
What did you do before starting Sage + Sound?
Lacey has 15+ years of branding and marketing experience across publishing, advertising, journalism and hospitality. Born and raised in New York City, Lacey received her BA from the University of Pennsylvania and MBA from NYU Stern.
Lauren is a lifelong fitness and wellness enthusiast who spent 20 years working in the music and talent management industries, connecting brands with some of the biggest names in music including Katy Perry, Lenny Kravitz, Coldplay, Lady Gaga, PINK and the Black Eyed Peas.
What type of experiences do you offer?
We have services and classes that really span a wide range. Our services include facials, massages (Thai, lymphatic, deep tissue), energy healing, acupuncture…In what we refer to as The Study, we offer classes and workshops including Sound Experiences, Meditation, Breathwork, Manifestation, Tarot, Astrology, and more.
Do you host events?
We love hosting events! We host private events for clients who want to have intimate experiences or classes and also work with corporate partners to host events for brand launches and collaborations.
How impactful is breathwork to our well-being?
Breathwork is about recalibrating and working on your central nervous system to calm anxiety. It’s a way to be really in tune with your breath and know which type of breathwork works for you, that’s why we spent so much time ensuring we had different classes and practitioners. You can use breathwork to help you through anxiety, through excitement – it’s all about knowing how to tap into your breath for the right time and place.
There has been a lot of talk about how the wellness industry isn’t well. It seems there are more wellness solutions & products than ever, yet as a society, we aren’t feeling so well. Any thoughts or tips?
We hear this a lot! Our approach is really about meeting you where you are. We don’t believe in the idea that there is ONE way to do wellness. It shouldn’t be prescriptive. We offer a range of wellness experiences and services so that you discover what is right for you. As a society, if we strip away this idea that you have to practice wellness in a certain way, we can get into a better place with our approach to wellness.
How can we incorporate more mindfulness into our daily routines?
There’s not one answer that will suit everyone, but we strongly encourage people to find that ONE thing they can do daily that allows them to be present in the moment. Whether it’s mindful journaling, going to a meditation class, or just going outside a 10-minute walk without your cell phone…
What’s next for you?
You’ll have to wait and see, but you should expect to see more of us 🙂
Where can people find you?
