Day 7 New York Fashion Week: Fashion Week Partnerships & Market Appointments
We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Bluestone Lane during NYFW to keep us eating healthy, hydrated and caffeinated. They make it so easy to stay healthy while on-the-go! We begin the day with breakfast at the Bluestone Lane Collective Cafe full of matcha, skim cappuccinos, avocado toast, greek yogurt, juice and more! Nicholas Stone is the founder of the company. He was both a professional athlete and worked in finance.
You can learn all about his story in my interview with Nicholas here. The coffee culture in Australia is all about community. Since he didn’t find that coffee culture in America, he decided to start his own. The most recent concept is a boozy coffee shop with a dinner menu.
Next, we go to a market appointment with Paris99. Her pieces are sold at Opening Ceremony. Her collection is inspired by the 1950s and 1960s, so there were a lot of mini skirts and dresses. The fabrics are one’s that would’ve been found in the home at that time, like vinyl, dotted swiss and ric rac.
We go to our re-see appointment with Jonathan Simkhai. We love going to market appointments because it is a time to see the pieces in person and to discuss how we can work together and learn more about the brand. It is a great time for Alison to choose pieces for her styling clients.
Next, we go to our re-see appointment with Prabal Gurung. We even get to catch up with him for a bit!
What is a market appointment?
When a designer has a show, you’ll attend the runway show when you begin thinking about which looks make sense for mailers, what are the trends, what could be featured in an editorial story. In market, you choose your selection from all the pieces and edit them down. Then, you write the order by size by door for your store. The designer gives you a due date. All the orders and appointments are happening at the same time, which is why it is so hectic! In the show, the pieces go by so quickly, it is nice to see the pieces in a calmer setting. Sometimes, there are pieces in the showroom that weren’t in the show. You are able to absorb the collection.
We went to lunch at Cookshop.
Next, we went to the Alice & Olivia presentation. We continue to see suiting and yellow as a trend. We got to see Stacey Bendet & Nicky Hilton Rothschild at the event. Alice & Olivia was founded in 2002. Stacey is a mother of 3. The brand can be found at Net-A-Porter, Galleries Lafayette, Harvey Nichols and more.
Lastly, we go to The Organic Pharmacy for a fashion week refresh. We get a facial and some travel products for our trip to Europe. Kerry Wall, The US Retail Manager, talked to us all about the services The Organic Pharmacy offers. The Organic Pharmacy offers a variety of treatments. You can come to them with any of your health or beauty needs. They have both makeup and skin consultations. They also have a homeopath on staff. They offer a health assessment with an EIS machine (electrical interstitial scan). It measures the interstitial fluid, which is the fluid surrounding your cells. It can tell you about digestive disorders, hormone imbalance, foods you need to eat more of and avoid and tells you your toxin levels. They have facials and use microdermabrasion, oxygen, microcurrent, lymphatic drainage and slimming treatments.
Kerry answers some beauty questions for us!
What is the most important product for your skin?
Face cleanser. It shouldn’t be drying or stripping. It should remove dirt, pollution, dead skin cells and makeup. Make sure to cleanse, tone and hydrate and use oils or gels packed with antioxidants to repair your skin. Moisturizer and use sunscreen.
They have supplements and tinctures. They have things for stress and building your immune system.
What supplements from The Organic Pharmacy do you suggest when traveling?
