Backstage Beauty at NYFW: Altuzarra

We have been covering backstage beauty since 2014 when Delia was on the beauty buying team at Barneys New York and boy, is it exciting! She would get to go backstage before runway shows at New York Fashion Week with her nail vendors, and we are so thankful we get to continue to take you backstage with us with The Style That Binds Us! NYFW Spring/Summer 2022 marked the big return of in-person shows, but due to variants, the lists were much more edited so fewer people were able to attend each event/show/presentation/etc. Below, you’ll get an inside look into the scene backstage before the Altuzarra Spring 2022 show. The beauty team for the Altuzarra show was legendary!

Setting the scene:

The hustle & bustle of backstage! A hair, makeup and nail team are hired prior to the event, and about 2 weeks before the show, the designer meets with the beauty team to decide on the look. There is a call time for backstage when everyone is scheduled to arrive. The models are usually coming from another show, so sometimes they are getting their hair, makeup and nails done simultaneously if they are running late. Can you imagine being a model and having your hair, makeup and nails done multiple times in one day?!

There is a scheduled time for rehearsal, so no matter what stage the models are in for their hair, makeup and nails, they all leave at some point to rehearse. Once this is over, the models come back for touchups and get into their first look.

For Altuzarra, the lead nail artist was Jin Soon Choi, the makeup artist was Dick Page, the hair stylist was Odile Gilbert and the skincare was by Dr. Barbara Sturm.
